Dr. Andrea Amza-András

Dr. Andrea Amza-András is a Romanian diplomat who has been leading Romania’s embassy in Austria as interim chargé d’affaires since December 2024. She took over the leadership of the diplomatic mission during a crucial period for Romanian-Austrian relations, immediately following the decision on Romania’s full Schengen accession. Previously, she was the first secretary and deputy ambassador at Romania’s embassy in Vienna, working alongside former foreign minister Emil Hurezeanu. Her professional activities focus on deepening the political dialogue between Romania and Austria, developing economic and tourism cooperation, representing Romania’s interests, and strengthening relations with the Austrian institutional, economic, scientific, and cultural spheres. In the recent period, she has supported numerous initiatives related to economic diplomacy, digitalization and artificial intelligence, dialogue with the business sector, labor mobility, and promoting Romania as a tourist destination. Among the recent initiatives coordinated by her is the launch of the Romanian Alumni Club in Austria, which brings together Romanian students who graduated from Austrian universities and helps them utilize their professional and scientific experiences. She also supported the Romania Connect platform, which aims to strengthen bilateral economic relations and establish connections between entrepreneurs and companies in Romania and Austria. Andrea Amza-András graduated in philology in Cluj-Napoca in 1998, then earned a master’s degree in governance and European studies from the University of Bologna in 2002. In 2004, she completed the European studies program at the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna. In 2025, she obtained a doctorate magna cum laude from the German-language Andrássy University in Budapest. In her doctoral dissertation titled “Romania’s Path from Recipient to Shaper of European Policies: The Formation of Romania’s European Policy between January 1, 2019, and December 31, 2024,” she examined how Romania transformed from a state adopting European policies into an active participant in shaping them.
